Black Market Green (BMG) is a 90 minute documentary about the fight for marijuana legislation in New York that benefits communities targeted by the war on drugs.
BMG tells the story of how harsh drug laws led to mass incarceration in the Black community and the attempt to heal those wounds through marijuana legalization.
Although there have been many documentaries about marijuana, Black Market Green is the first to focus specifically on the legislative battle as a remedy for the war on drugs.
Over the last several years, there has been a rapid change in public opinion about marijuana.
As states continue to legalize marijuana, it is essential that those laws benefit formerly criminalized communities.
By highlighting New York's fight to legalize marijuana, Black Market Green hopes to inspire and inform those upcoming battles.
